On January 30, 2025, a pivotal meeting was held between the Special Assistant to the President of the Federal Republic Nigeria on Citizenship and Leadership, Hon. Rinsola Abiola and the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association Young Lawyers Forum (NBA-YLF) led by Timothy Clement, Esq. to explore a strategic partnership for the implementation of the Legal Literacy Project Awareness Campaign And Strengthening Access to Justice in Nigeria.

This initiative is particularly important for young lawyers across Nigeria, as it provides opportunities for meaningful professional development, capacity building, and active participation in contributing to the well being of the Country. Through this partnership, young lawyers will have the platform to work on the Access to Justice Project, Legal Literacy Programs and can contribute to providing free legal representation to indigent Nigerians, especially young people in correctional facilities.

The initiative will also expose young lawyers to real-life legal advocacy, human rights work, and criminal justice reform efforts, equipping them with valuable skills beyond traditional legal practice.

During the meeting, representatives from LEAP Africa and the Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC) emphasized the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in ensuring justice sector reforms are effective and sustainable. A key takeaway was the agreement that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be reached to outline the structure of this partnership moving forward.

This partnership marks a significant step in empowering young lawyers while advancing social justice. We look forward to the next phase of implementation and encourage young legal professionals across the federation to take advantage of this opportunity to make a real impact.
