Punch reports that Taiwo Yemitan, 45, was arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for reportedly in possession of a fresh human head and the dismembered body parts of a female victim in the Lafenwa neighbourhood of Abeokuta.
Superintendent of Police Omolola Odutola, the police spokesperson, stated that Yemitan was apprehended early Sunday morning at his residence near Atinsola Petrol Station after receiving a tip-off from local security groups, including the Agbekoya and vigilante operatives.
Odutola disclosed that Yemitan confessed to luring the victim, identified as Darasimi, to his home with the intention of murdering her. He further admitted to collaborating with two accomplices, Kehinde Yemitan and another individual identified only as Kazeem, in the crime. The suspects allegedly planned to sell the victim’s head and other body parts.
For a post-mortem examination, the dismembered remains have been taken to the General Hospital in Ijaye, Abeokuta. Searches are being conducted to find the victim’s relatives and capture the accomplices.
The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further inquiries.
Odutola recalled a comparable incident earlier this year involving a suspect, Azeez Adebayo, who admitted to murdering three women he lured through a social media platform. The victims were deceived with promises of money but were ultimately led to their deaths.
The police spokesperson issued a stern warning to young women, advising them to avoid risky behaviors and prioritize their safety. She emphasized the rising cases of women being targeted and killed for ritual purposes, underscoring the need for caution and contentment.
