“A New Era of Punctuality: NBA’s National Executive Council Declares an End to ‘African Time’”

The Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN-led administration of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) marked a significant shift in its first National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on November 7, 2024. Held at the Nike Lake Resort Hotel in Enugu State, this meeting broke new ground by starting promptly at exactly 9:00 a.m, sending a strong message on punctuality in NBA activities.

In attendance were notable dignitaries, including Enugu State’s Deputy Governor, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, the state’s Attorney General, Kingsley Udeh, distinguished Senior Advocates, over 8 past general secretaries of the NBA and respected branch Chairmen and Secretaries. This esteemed gathering set the stage for an inspiring address by NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, who emphasized a commitment to timely conduct in all NBA events.

In his opening remarks, Afam Osigwe firmly declared an end to “African time” in NBA proceedings. He urged lawyers to embrace punctuality and efficiency, stating that every activity must start and conclude on schedule. This commitment to timeliness reflects the President’s vision of fostering professionalism, discipline, and respect within the legal community.

The event signals a new era for the NBA, where punctuality is not just encouraged but is expected. It serves as a call to action for members to uphold this standard, reinforcing the NBA’s dedication to integrity and excellence in all its engagements.
