NBA Sokoto Branch passed a vote of confidence on its first female chairman

The NBA Sokoto Branch, under the leadership of Rashidat Mohammed, Esq, held its inaugural monthly meeting on Saturday the 17th of August, 2024. The meeting had a massive turnout with Chief J. E. Ochidi SAN, Prof. Ibrahim Abdullahi SAN, Prof A.S.R Matazu, Prof. K. G Muhammad, Hon. Nuhu Adamu, Mr. A. Y. Abubakar Esq. Hon. G. O. Uwadiae, Aisha Mohammed Dantsoho MNI, five Directors of Ministry of Justice  Sokoto State, and many other senior members of the branch in attendance. The meeting was flagged off with a brief lecture by Hon. Justice Muhammad Muhammad, a Judge of the High Court of Justice Sokoto State on the topic. *”Good Ethical Conduct as a Panacea for  Successful Practice of  Law in Nigeria.”*

During the meeting, the Chairman constituted  committees in compliance with section 9 of the Uniform Bye Laws of the NBA Constitution (as amended) 2021 and she equally presented a blue print containing the details of intending activities, and the time frame for the activities with an implementation plan which will serve as a guide/manual for the purpose of achieving the goals of her administration and the objectives of the Association at large.

The meeting was hosted by Hon. Justice A. M. Lamido, Justice of Court of Appeal,  Eikiti Division in a grand style. 

At the conclusion of the meeting, Kelechi D. Ogbonna Esq. moved a motion for the branch to pass a vote of confidence on the Chairman on the following grounds:

1. The standing and adhoc committees just ratified are so inclusive 

2. It is the first time a Chairman is presenting a blueprint to serve as a guide in achieving the objectives of the Association and to enable her to fulfil her campaign promises and carry everyone along for an active Bar.

3. The involvement and efforts of the Chairman during the trying time of late Solomon Alimasunya Esq. and the role she played after his death is so impressive of a leader.

4. Her inaugural meeting shows that she believes in continuity, inclusivity, and transparency.

5. The meeting was the most organised meeting of the branch, and it’s full of innovations and initiatives that will positively impact the members and the public 

6. The Chairman started so well as a visionary leader who believes in the unity of the bar.

The motion was seconded by Dr. S. U. Mohammed and largely accepted by the members of the branch.
