Beyond the Pulpit: Celebrating the Life and Legacy of a Great Man of God, Prophet TB Joshua

“I am here to do what I am called for, I am living for and I am going to die for” – These were the words of Senior Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua of blessed memory when he arrived in Botswana in 2005 to hold his first ever international crusade”.

Today, we celebrate the life and legacy of senior prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua who was called to glory on June 5, 2021. He was born in Arigidi-Akoko Ondo state, south-western Nigeria in June 1963 and rose from that humble background to become an international preacher of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the greatest prophet from the African continent thereby confirming the word of God in the Holy Bible in the book of 1 Corinthians 1:27: “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.

”Undoubtedly, senior prophet TB Joshua was the greatest Nigerian in his life time whose legacies transcended national & continental borders, races, tribes & religions. He was a world renowned preacher of the gospel, Televangelist, teacher and apostle of love and peace as exemplified by his numerous humanitarian and philanthropic activities from Internally Displaced Persons in North East Nigeria, the destitute, blind, lame, beggars, the less privileged in Nigeria and all over the world including donations to school children in South America, Asia and elsewhere.Like Apostle Paul, he preached the gospel of Jesus Christ both in words and deeds.

Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua, fondly known as TB Joshua, was more than a charismatic preacher and spiritual leader. He was a humanitarian force, whose benevolent activities transcended borders and touched lives globally. He was a peacemaker amongst great men, a great father and doting husband. While his spiritual ministry at The Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN) in Lagos, Nigeria, gained worldwide recognition, his humanitarian efforts and conflict resolution initiatives cemented his legacy as a compassionate and influential figure.

A Global Humanitarian Footprint

TB Joshua’s humanitarian work was as extensive as it was impactful. His initiatives spanned continents, bringing relief and hope to countless individuals. In Nigeria, he was renowned for his philanthropic gestures, which included providing food, shelter, and financial assistance to the needy. His charitable organization, Emmanuel Global Network, was instrumental in these endeavours, regularly distributing aid to the less fortunate. 

One of his significant contributions was during the 2014 Ebola outbreak in West Africa. TB Joshua sent $50,000 worth of financial aid and other relief materials to the affected regions. His support was material and also psychological, as he offered prayers and encouragement to the victims and healthcare workers battling the epidemic.

TB Joshua’s outreach programs in Ghana provided scholarships to underprivileged students, medical aid to the sick, and support to orphans and widows. His efforts extended to Latin America, where he funded the construction of schools and healthcare facilities in rural communities. After the devastating earthquake in Haiti in 2010, TB Joshua dispatched a relief team to provide essential supplies and rebuild infrastructure.

In the Philippines, he organized free medical camps where thousands received treatment for various ailments. The medical missions were comprehensive, offering surgeries, dental care, and essential medications to underserved communities. After the devastating 2018 Sulawesi earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia, TB Joshua sent teams emergency supplies, including food, water, and medical assistance. His Emmanuel TV Partners network was pivotal in coordinating these efforts, ensuring that aid swiftly reached the most affected areas.

Empowering Lives Through Education and Social Welfare

TB Joshua’s commitment to education was evident in his numerous initiatives to empower the youth. In addition to providing scholarships in Ghana, he supported education for girls in rural areas of Pakistan, funding the construction of schools and offering scholarships to ensure that young girls had the opportunity to pursue their dreams. His belief in education as a tool for empowerment was a driving force behind many of his humanitarian projects.

In Colombia, he supported rehabilitation programs for former drug addicts, providing them with vocational training and psychological support to reintegrate into society. His holistic approach addressed individuals’ physical, emotional, and social needs.

In South Africa, TB Joshua’s initiatives included supporting the homeless and funding programs aimed at helping young people develop vocational skills. His outreach extended to Zimbabwe, where he funded agricultural projects to help communities achieve food security and economic independence.

A Peacemaker Among Great Men

Beyond his humanitarian aid, TB Joshua was a peacemaker who mediated conflicts involving notable figures and political leaders. His intervention in disputes was marked by a remarkable ability to bring conflicting parties to a peaceful resolution.

TB Joshua played a pivotal role in the peace process in South Sudan between President Salva Kiir and his former deputy, Riek Machar. His involvement was instrumental in signing a peace agreement to end the country’s prolonged civil war. 

TB Joshua’s unique approach, which combined spiritual guidance with practical advice, helped build trust and foster dialogue between the opposing sides.

Similarly, in Sierra Leone, TB Joshua’s intervention in the political crisis following the 2007 elections contributed to a peaceful transition of power. His influence was acknowledged by many African leaders who sought his counsel in times of political turmoil.

TB Joshua’s involvement in the peace process during the country’s civil unrest was crucial in Liberia. He engaged with political leaders and rebel factions, emphasizing dialogue and reconciliation. His efforts contributed significantly to the country’s stabilisation during a tumultuous period.

Healing and Spiritual Support

TB Joshua’s ministry was also known for the numerous testimonies of healings during its services which attracted people worldwide. During these services worshippers received healing from all sorts of ailments as well as spiritual and emotional support. His healing crusades in several countries across South America, Asia, Middle East, and other parts of Africa drew massive crowds, and many testified to miraculous recoveries. 

A Great Father and a Doting Husband

While TB Joshua’s public life was marked by his spiritual, peacemaking and humanitarian endeavours, his private life was characterized by his devotion to his family. He was a loving father to his children and a doting husband to his wife, Evelyn Joshua. His family often spoke of his humility, kindness, and the unwavering support he provided them.

TB Joshua remained grounded and deeply connected to his family despite his global fame. He often credited his wife for her steadfast support and partnership in his ministry. They nurtured a home environment rooted in love, faith, and mutual respect.

His children have often shared stories of his involvement in their lives, emphasizing the values of humility, hard work, and compassion he instilled in them. TB Joshua’s ability to balance his demanding ministry with a loving family life was a testament to his character and priorities.
