A journalist with the Lagos Television (LTV), Odekeye Havis, has narrated how some errant personnel of the Nigerian Army attacked and assaulted him in the Kuje area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
Havis was assaulted by the army personnel around 9pm on Wednesday while he was returning home from work.
“I was asked to stop, and they started beating and kicking me on the ground. I pleaded with them that I was coming back from work and that I was a journalist but my entreaties fell on their deaf ears,” he narrated.
“I sustained both physical and internal injuries in the process particularly in my eyes which I am still battling with as I manage to write this piece.
“In the area once it is 9:30pm, the soldiers always go on rampage and beat up people randomly accusing them of coming late as they move from one shop to the other.
“Many people in Kuje have become victims of this wicked attack by the Nigerian Army personnel deployed to the area.
“There is an urgent need for the appropriate authorities (Nigerian Army) to call these uncivilised soldiers to order and put an end to this degrading treatment being meted out to the innocent citizens on a daily basis.”
